I am setting up a community tank, and have most of the plants figured out, but I want the angels to lay their eggs on plants, but what type of plant would be good? I know some suggest amazon sword but they get massive, so I want something big enough for them, but not something that will take over the entire aquarium.

Thanks.

Anubia has nice broad leaves. Picture: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=anubia&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=E4KIStXiJo7gNeWeiNsE&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1

Cryptocoryne also have broad leaves. Picture: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&um=1&sa=1&q=cryptocoryne&aq=f&oq=&aqi=g10&start=0

Hygrophila corymbosa is another broad leaf. Pictures: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&um=1&sa=1&q=Hygrophila+corymbosa&aq=f&oq=&aqi=&start=0

I’ve purchased plants from http://liveaquaria.com/product/aquarium-fish-supplies.cfm?c=768 before and they are a reliable seller. Your local pet store might also carry those plants because anubias and crypts are quite common.
I recommend that you test the water parameters (pH, salinity) before buying a plant and pick one that matches the parameters already established in your tank.

If you’re really sincere about breeding your angels then you should add a piece of slate or plastic into the tank so it and the eggs can be easily moved to a growout tank. Here is some more info: http://www.breedingangelfish.info/angelfish-breeding.cfm

Do you like gardening? What are your favorite things to plant? What was the first plant you ever grew?

Planting gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside, like I’m helping one of God’s creatures along the path of life. Do you have a green thumb? I love gardening, don’t you? Can you give me some plant tips?
Oooooh, crocuses are pretty, I like tulips, too! heard they were easy to grow, True?

My first memories are of grandmother working next door in her garden. She would literally cultivate rows of flowers…..from seeds, bulbs, anything that she could cut. I got to help her as all grandchildren did. When I ws nine, she told me I was old enough to cut the flowers for church……I was thrilled….then when I ws 11, I started getting to cut and arrange. My favorite things about gardening is to propagate plants…….anything I can get my hands on from seeds, soft cuttings, hardwood cuttings, etc.

I want to start a flower garden but i dont know what flowers to grow?

I really dont know anything about gardening. But I would like to know what flowers are both pretty and smell good, how to properly weed, how to keep bugs off, and diffrent flowers.

Deciding on what type of flowers to grow depends on a few things, such as what type of climate you live in, how much maintenance you are willing to do in your garden (i.e. roses vs something easier), and also if you would prefer to establish a perennial garden (flowers that return every year) or change from year to year with annuals.
The best way to start is to find a good nursery in your area and establish a relationship with them. A small mom and pop place that also offers gardening classes would be best.
You should also consult your local agricultural extension service, often associated with a university with an agri. program. They will have master gardeners who are very knowledgeable about what grows best in your part of the country.
Also helpful is to get to know your neighbors who are good gardeners and ask them questions.
Good luck and don’t be afraid to experiment, it sometimes takes a while to establish the kind of garden you want.
