For the table arrangements, go with silk. You can get any color and they’re cheap (my favorite word). A white vase or glass from the dollar store and you’re all set.

I just recently designed a black and white wedding. We used daisies, tulips, and another flower *I’d have to contact the florist to remind me*. If you use black flowers you risk making it look too much like a funeral. I highly suggest the use of white flowers, w/ black ribbon, etc. Burgundy would look ok w/ the black and white, but I also HIGHLY suggest yellow accents. It is sweet. You might want to use Black Magic roses which are beautiful burgundy velvet with your Mums & Carnations.

Asters are also a flower that you can find easily in September in a variety of colors

IMO, any color that isn’t a pastel but is bold and intense can work very well with black-and-white.

Burgundy works. So would red, or bright yellow, or deep pink, or turquoise, or orange, or just about any other color.

What makes sense to me, since money is an issue, is to get with your florist and find out what’s available, is a color you like, and is inexpensive in September. S/He will be able to tell you all the options and what’s a bargain.
