First of all, what is the name of the gardening services company? You'll most likely put the name with the logo on all of your marketing materials so it may be less pertinent what your graphic actually is. If you're stuck on the dragonfly then keep it, if not I would steer closer to something related to the services he'll actually be doing. Once he starts his business then people will begin to identify the logo with the name. It's going to be a little difficult to portray that he's all those things in a logo, but eventually his customers will come to associate those things with his business and the work that he does.

What about something with an "organic" or "go green" type feel to it.

I really like Shades of Blue and Green Ferns and Green Plants - http://www.logo-search.com/keyword.php/plants

If you use a dragonfly people might think pesticide.
References :
Well I'm not sure if any of these suggestions fit with your dragonfly design..but I'll share them with you anyway:

         Green Thumb Gardner
          Landscape Doctor
           Garden Maids
         Call The Gardner

I think the best thing is to keep it simple. If you use a logo that is too long, it doesn't "stick" in people's minds.
   Good luck to you both!
References :
Bob-a-job?

Its the old Boy Scout fundraising motto, and as such, older people may recognise it a representing hard work, initiative and traditional reliability.
